The United Arab Emirates is an amazing country, with searing hot temperatures, a landscape dominated by skyscrapers and never-ending culture, it is one of the most spectacular places to visit on earth. Most will know that UAE is home to the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa, and it is fairly common knowledge that expats have flocked to the country in recent years, Acuma AE suspects that this is due to the no income tax rules! Masdar City – Planned for Abu Dhabi, Masdar City aims to become the world’s first carbon free city, with the entire energy supply being created using renewable methods. It will aptly be the home of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and is looking to attract other companies that operate with the environment as a firm priority. The city is thought to be considering electric cars and other green alternatives as the method for public transport, whilst it is expected that the population will reach 10,000 by the end of 2020.

Largest indoor theme park – Ferrari World is the largest indoor theme park across the globe, spanning an area of 86,000 square meters in total. At the World Travel Awards 2015, Ferrari World scooped the prize of the leading tourist attraction in the Middle East and has won a variety of other awards since it first opened in late 2010. The park currently operates 4 rollercoasters, with a 5th scheduled to open later this year, and is also the location of the world’s fastest ride of this type, the Formula Rossa. It has a top speed of 240km/h (150mph) which can be reached after around 5 seconds. Acuma AE highly recommends it for any thrillseekers!

Driverless train network spanning 75km – The Dubai Metro holds the honour of the longest, driverless metro network as its tracks cover a distance of 75km in total. The rail network was constructed only fairly recently in 2009, but has an annual passenger ridership of just under 165 million. Expansion projects are well underway too, with the transport authority hoping to complete the entire process by 2030 which would encompass 421km of track.

Liquor license required for residents – People who hold a residency permit in the UAE are required by law to obtain a liquor license if they intend on drinking alcohol. UAE’s strict laws on alcohol are well-known in terms of the punishments that can be imposed upon people, but to even buy it in a shop requires the proper paperwork. The license can be applied for online and requires a variety of different documents in order for it to be granted.

The world’s largest carpet – At one of the biggest mosques in the world, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, it is thought that the largest carpet ever created is located within the main prayer hall. The carpet measures 60, 570 square feet in total and took around 2 years to make. The weight is estimated to be around 35 tons, it took 1,300 carpet knotters to make and is mainly made from wool.
